BROOMFIELD – The Vietnamese Professional Network held its communication skills workshop March 31 at the Arabian Horse Center.
Seventeen people attended the four-hour workshop, which focused on teaching the arts of conveying information, listening and preparing presentations. VPN members Hai Ho, Tam Doan and Tod Nguyen were the featured speakers.
“The purpose of VPN is to build unity, strength and success among Vietnamese Americans,” VPN vice president Ho said, reciting the group’s motto.
The speakers discussed the roles of body language and first impressions, as well as preconceived stereotypes that are associated with Asians and Asian-Americans.
Ho said that this event was a part in a series of workshops that the group is planning to produce. Among the others that are in the works are leadership training, financial planning and a tennis clinic.
COPPER MOUNTAIN - VPN held its first team ski trip on 1/6/07. We had a great time skiing, boarding, and riding on the tubes! The weather was a bit windy, but the sun was fortunate enough to cooperate and provided enough warmth for us to enjoy the outdoor. Much thanks to Alex for coordinating the event.
VPN hosted our very first After-Hour Social Event for the public to gather more members with similar interests in our mission and vision. We had an attendance of over 20+ career-minded people including business owners, professionals, entrepreneurs, and students. A very engaging and captivating presentation was delivered by our vice president, Dr. Hai Ho, along with the opening introduction from the president John Luong. This was truly VPN's debut of what the organization will achieve in the near future!
It was VPN's first-time-ever entering and competing in the Dragon Boat Festival during the summer of 2006 at Sloan's Lake. VPN had to gather over 10+ sponsors within one week in order to get past the entry fees (led by John- our president)! Through much dedication and practice- we earned ourselves a spot in the semi-finals. The satisfaction of barely beating our opponents by split-seconds was very achieving and enjoying. The gratification of making it so far in the tournament compensated for our hard work and efforts. Overall, we were very pleased with our accomplishment and we will work even harder next year to bring home that victory!
